Brewer’s Bountiful Notes

Thanks to all the parents and students who gave to our little Christmas Angel through the Salvation Army- especially Mrs. Hughes who shopped for us. I am sure you will be blessed this Holiday Season for thinking of others.

Monday: T.L.W. continue with Latin. If you owe Mrs. Singlar make up work get it in ASAP!

Tuesday: T.L.W. read and discuss “The Treasure of Lemon Brown” p. 92. Analyze character.

Wednesday: T.L.W. copy the vocab. list for the week and write a sentence or give an example of/ with each.

Dichotomy- division into two things or groups

Mnemonic- related to memory or intended to assist memory.

Euphemism- an acceptable word that substitutes for one that is rude or offensive.

Anachronism- something that seems unlikely or impossible in the time that it occurs.

Metamorphosis- change of physical form or substance.

Hyperbole- extreme exaggeration.

Paradigm- a very clear or useful example.

Analysis- separation of something into its parts.

Capricious- impulsive or unpredictable in attitude.

Mistletoe- a semiparisitic shrub with white berries that grows on trees.

Homework:: Essay: Everyone has a certain routine that they go through each day. Think about every step you normally go through between waking and being in school. What do your wear? What do you usually eat? How do you get to school? Before you begin to write complete a plan sheet about your morning routine. In an expository essay of 5 paragraphs explain your morning routine. You will have 35 min. to do this How- To. . .Essay. 8.2.1,2

Thursday: T.L.W. study and review vocabulary words by completing Words to Own. Share homework. 8.1.06,

Friday: T.L.W. complete selection test on “The Treasure of Lemon Brown” . Complete any work that you have not finished. Do not get behind! 8.1.3

Monday: T.L.W. read and interpret the story from the Literature Text “The Treasure Of Lemon Brown” p. 92. As you read identify and analyze character traits. Use a graphic organizer for the points at which various plot elements occur. 8.1.08, 8.3.01

Tuesday: T.L.W. study Homographs- words that are spelled alike but have different meanings. Some have the same pronunciation, some are pronounced differently. minute, looming, mews, wind, stoop, shock, tattoo.

Read “The Courage That My Mother Had” by Edna St. Vincent Millay p. 108 and”Legacy II”p. 109 by Quintana. Answer the questions on p. 111 from Making Meanings about the two poems. What is a legacy? Rhythm is a rise and fall of the voice produced by repeated sound patterns. Do you note any rhythm in the two poems? Red workbook p.112-113, ExercisesA and B. Combine Choppy sentences by inserting phrases. 8.301, 8.1.08

Monday: T.L.W. complete skills lesson “Drawing Inferences” text p. 295. Write questions and answers (1-5). Practice the skill. Apply the skill - text p. 297 #24 and #25. Assessment text p 296: Vocab. (1-10), Key Facts (11-15), Critical Thinking and Writing (16-19) Connecting with Gov. and Citizenship- Create A Line Graph with data in the chart text p. 297. Turn in today. 8.1spi. 2, & 6.

Tuesday: T.L.W. read and discuss Time Line p. 300- 301.
1) In what year did the Embargo Act stop American overseas trade?

2) Who served as President during the War of 1812?

3) Thomas Jefferson became President in 1801. How misght htis event have affected an event that happened three years later?

4) How did the Louisana Purchase counteract the Proclamation of 1763? Read “A Republican Takes Office” p. 302-3-5. Copy the opening Venn Diagram p. 302 and fill in key facts about Thomas Jefferson and John marshall. With common characteristics in the overlapping section of the Venn Diagram.

5) How did Jefferson’s election in 1800 mark a change in the nations? See chart p. 303.

Wednesday: T.L.W. read and discuss “The Louisianna Purchase” text p. 306-310. Complete section 2 Assessment text p. 310. Identify , Define, Comphrehend, Exploring the Main Idea, and Making decisions. Classwork/ Homework- Write (3) journal entries as a member of Lewis and Clark’s corps of Discovery describing what you feel as you explore the territory and meet Native Americans who live there. Share ideas or journal entries tomorrow.

Thursday: T.L.W. share journal entries and check Section 2 Assessment and go over workbook p. 52-53.  Complete chapt. 9 Test. 8.5 tpi 8
