Monday: T.L.W. continue with German. Read “Harriet Tubman” p.557-566. How do you define Freedom? What does that word mean in your life? Is there anything that you can imagine giving up your freedom for? Is there anything you would refuse to do for freedom? Answers need to be in your reading journal. Before you read the selection skim and scan to decide how to approach the text. How fast should you read? Have you view the vocabulary for this selection? Have you looked at the map on p. 562? As you read take notes. You will use the notes later to write a summary. Notice the allusion to the Biblical Book of Exodus. Moses is chosen by God to lead the people of Isreal out of slavery in Egypt. Why was Harriet Tubman called “the Moses of her people”? Worksheet provided. SPI. 8.1.12, 8.2.01, 8.3.02

Tuesday: T.L.W, complete the Grammar Link mini-lesson on p. 572 “Joining Independednt Clauses”. Complete Try It Out. Read how to place commas within the clauses , or use a semicolon to prevent confusion when reading. Red Workbook p. 79-80. Vocabulary:  fugitives, incomprehensible, incentive, disheveled, instill, dispel, mutinous, eloquence, cajoling, fastidious.SPI.8.3.02, 8.1.11, 8.3.04 TPI1.

Wednesday: T.L.W. discuss how Style comes from the reader’s choice of words.Essay Assignment: Compare and Contrast two literary works. “Harriet Tubman “text p.557-566, and “The People Could Fly” text p. 574-577. Tell how they are alike and different. Focus on these literary elements- characters, setting, theme, author’s purpose in the writing and the work’s effect on you. Did you have any feelings for one over the other? Turn in at the end of the class period. You will have to allow youself time to read the second selection. SPI 8.2.11 TPI 2

Thursday: T.L.W. continue to work with modifiers. Red workbook p. 63-64 Worksheet #6 A, B, C, D.
Share essays if time permits.  Note:  Essay Test tomorrow.SPI 8.3.02

Friday: T.L.W. complete the selection test on “Harriet Tubman”. Catch up on any work you have not done. 8.1.10, 8.1.11 TPI 12
