Wednesday:T.L.W. complete a Vocab Quiz on words given so far in the book. Thursday:T.L.W. collaborate with a partner on a monologue Elijah might deliver in a stage version of The Glory Field. Remember that a monologue is a long speech delivered by a character while alone on the stage. Work together to choose where the monologue will fit into the story- perhaps when Elijah is on the train to Canada. Write the speech together. Then work as actor and director to prepare the monologue for performance for the class. 8.2 tpi 2,8.2 tpi.9

Tuesday:T.L.W.analyze the time line text p. 432- 433 Reform and a New American Culture” Chapt. 15 . 1) What two educational events happened in 1837? 2) Did the first convention on woment’s rights occur before or after the World Antislavery Convention? 3) Which groups of people in American society benefited from the various reform movements during the 1800’s? Name 4 groups. Read “The Reforming Spirit text p. 434-437. Define: social reform, predestination, Second Great Awakening, revival, debtor, temperance movement. Homework: Section 1 Assessment text p. 437 (3-8).

Wednesday:T.L.W.read about an analyze the first American Classroom text p. 438. Then read and discuss”Opposing Slavery” text p. 439-442. 1) Explain how the anislavery movement began and grew. 2) Describne how the Underground Railroad helped slaves reach freedom. 3) Discuss why many white northerners and southerners opposed the campaign to abolish slavery. Complete workbook Sections 1 and 2 of Chapt. 15.p. 77-78. Homework: After reading the section Identify people who favored aboliton and the different appporaches proposed for abolishing slavery. Friday:T.L.W. read and discuss “A Call for Women’s Rights” text p. 444-447. 1) List the goals that were set at the Seneca Falls Convention. 2) Describe how woment won new educational opportunities. 3) Who was Elizabeth Cady Stanton? How did her childhood experiences influence Stanton’s career? Homework: Assessment #3 text p. 447 (3-6).8.4 L3, 8.6D
