Monday: T.L.W. copy vocab. words to work with this week. Continue with German. Vocabulary: define and write a sentence with each word. Censor, fidget, frantically, illuminate, miff, mode, parched, perishable, swagger, ventilator. 8.1.1, 8.1.13
Tuesday: T.L.W. complete the Active Reading Transparency p. 21- Malcolm, Shep and the Lewis Family. The action occurs in several differnt settings- note this on your novel organizer sheet. One way that the author brings these settings to life is by using sensory details—sight, hearing, taste, touch, or smell. Note examples of each as you read this final part. Continue to title the chapters in the last part. 8.2.11, 8.1.1, 8.1.2, 8.1 TPI 2
Wednesday: T.L.W. look for times when Malcolm weighs different choices. What factors influence his decisions? Do you agree with the choices he ultimately makes? Explain.
When someone in a family has a problem, are other family members obligated to help that person? What if the person doesn’t want to be helped? What if the problem is the result of bad choices the family member has made? Has Malcolm and Shep’s story changed your ideas about the obligation that family members have to each other? If so, how? Continue to read the novel. 8.1 tpi 4, 8.1 tpi 10, 8.1 tpi 12.
Thursday: T.L.W. turn in the Active Reading Guide and vocabulary with sentences for the week. Complete the novel. Complete the Comparing/Contrasting worksheet. What impact did the Dred-Scott Case have on the nation? Assessment #3 p.472 (1-5). Bring workbook to class . 8.4 spi.4 spi.8 D.
Tuesday: T.L.W. complete workbook pages for Chapt. 16 . Read and Discuss “The Repbulican Party Emerges” p. 473-476. Identify Bias p. 477. 8.1D
Wednesday: T.L.W. read and Discuss “A Nation Divides” p. 478-481. Complete 16- # & 4 quiz. Explain how the 1860 election reflected sectional divisions. Describe how the South reacted to the election results. Discuss how the Civil War began in 1861. Why might a civil war be the most tragic kind of war? Do you agree with Lincoln that secession should be illegal? Homework: Chapt. 16 Review and Assessment p. 482-483 (1-15, and 20-25). Study for test tonight on Chapt. 16. 8.4spi.4, spi. 8, 8.1 D
Thursday:T.L.W. will begin “The Civil War” p. 484-489. Explain the issues that divided the nation when the war began. Describe the primary strengths and weaknesses of the north and the South at the beginning of the war. Identify the leaders of each side in the war. POSSIBLE LIBRARY DAY.8.1 D, 8.5 spi 8
Friday: T.L.W. Complete Chapt. 16 test. Read and discuss “No Easy Victory” p. 490-494. Describe the strategies that each side adopted to win the war. Explain how early encounters dispelled hopes for a quick end to the war. Identify the victories of the Confederates. List the victories of the Union. 8.1 D, 8.5 spi 8
