MONDAY: T.L.W.complete Chapt. 17 test. Begin Chapt. 18 with the time line for the chapter p. 514-515 1863-1896 “Reconstruction and the Changing South”. 1) What was the purpose of the 15th Amendment? 2)What happened in the U.S. the year the Dominion of Canada was formed? 3) Were slave markets in Zanzibar abolished before or after Lincoln was assassinated. 8.5L2
TUESDAY T.L.W.read and discuss “Early Steps to Reunion” p. 516-519. Answer the following questions: 1) Why were postwar problems more severe in the south than in the North? 2) What early steps were taken toward reconstruction? 3) How did the assassination of Lincoln and the inauguration of a new President lead to conflict? What did Lincoln mean when he said “With malice toward none; with charity for all”. Divide the class into to two groups and for homework research the Freedman’s Bureau or the assassination of Lincoln. Take notes to discuss in class. Draw a three- column chart on the board, and have students copy it into their notebooks. Use the chart to compare the Reconstruction plans of Lincoln, the congressional Republicans, and Andrew Johnson. What did southerners have to do in order to regain voting rights under each plan? In order to hold office? 8.5D
