Monday: T.L.W.read and discuss “The Dogs Could Teach Me” p. 277-282. Choose 0ne topic from the four– 1) Animals know things that people don’t. 2) Animals have a sense of humor. 3) Animals can teach us. 4) People are much smarter than animals — and write in your notebook about the intelligence of animals. We will also be writing various types of poetry this week. Try this week to find a story that you can relate possibly from the newspaper, or the animal channel about an outstanding thing that an animal has done for a human. Define: mystified, allellviate, contention, exaltation, chagrin. Use each word in a sentence. 8.1.25, 8.1.11,8.1.15,8.1.10.

Tuesday: T.L.W. discuss perspective, or point of view- the vantage point from which a story is told. Complete Making Meanings p. 285 (2-6, 8) and Reading Check (a-d). 8.1.18, 8.1.12, 8.2.11
Wednesday: T.L.W. use commas with adjectives p. 287. Worksheet on Commas with adjectives. 8.1.18, 8.2.11, 8.1.15

Thursday: T.L.W. read and discuss “The Last Great Race on Earth” p. 284. Discuss the term Jargon. Creative Writing: How might one of the dogs describe the experiences Paulsen tellls us about in “The Dogs Could Teach Me”? Rewrite one of the episodes so that one of the dogs tells the story from his/her point of view. Suggestions: Retell the part of how Columbia torments the doofus Olaf, by letting Columbia or Olaf tell the sotry using I. If you retell the story of Paulsen’s terrible accident, have Obeah tell the tale, using I. If the dogs retell the story, what will we know that Paulsen could not have known? 8.1.19, 8.1.24, 8.1.6, 8.2.12
Friday: T.L.W. complete selection test on “The Dogs Could Teach Me”. Be prepared to share your creative writing story from yesterday. 8.2.12, 8.1.25.

Monday: T.L.W. complete Chapt. 18 test and then begin “The United States since 1865″ text p. 540-546. Westward movement, expanding industry, increased immigration, and the growth of cities transformed the United States. The class will be divided into three teams. Each team will have a panel discussion that traces the post-civil war changes in their area of study. Include at least one original illustration. Ending with a class presentation of the area studied. Homework Section 1 Assessment (3-7) p. 546. 8.2 spi 7, 8.3 spi.6, spi7, 4.04, 8.5 tpi 2

Tuesday: T.L.W. identify changes that Progressive reformers supported, how the U.S. assumed a greater role in world affairs, and the causes and results of WWI. Text p. 547-551. Study the Casue and Effect Chart p. 549 and answer the graphic organizer skills lesson. Interpret the political cartoon p. 548 by completing the skills lesson on Women Win the Vote. 8.2.spi 6, 8.5 spi.11,

Wednesday: T.L.W. complete workbook p.100-101. Discuss “The Rise of Big Business” p. 578-582. What factors were responsible for groth of huge steel empires? What benefits did corporations and bankers provide the growing economy? How did John D. Rockefellow amass his huge oik holdings? What were the arguments for and against trusts? 8.5 spi. 14.

Thursday: T.L.W. visit the Library and or present Poster Project on changes in America since 1865. Have an illustration on your poster.
Friday T.L.W. complete Quiz 20-1 and 2, Continue on with the chapter. Discuss “Inventions Change the Nation” p. 584-589. Complete section #3 Assessment p. 589 (1-5), Continue with poster project presentations if we don’t finish on Thurs. Study for an Inventor’s Quiz from the chart on p. 585.
