Monday:T.L.W. continue with geography- Bring textbook to class. Begin Chapt. #4. Earth’s Resources p. 59-61. What physical processes produce fertile soil? What processes threaten soil fertility? Why are forests valuable resources, and how are they begin protected? Define: desertification, deforestation, reforestation, terraces, crop rotation, renewable resources. Study definitions. 7.5 spi. 2
Tuesday: T.L.W. discuss Water and Air. p. 62-64. Why is water an important resource? What threatens our supplies of fresh water, and how can we protect these supplies? What are some problems caused by air pollution? Define: semiarid, aqueducts, aquifers, desalinization, acid rain, global warming. (1-5) p. 64. Homework: Write a 1 page report on Weather Extremes such as blizzards, extremes in cold, hot, thunder/lightening storms etc. see www.bbc.co.uk/weather/fact files, or http://myhrw.com.7.3.tpi.5, 7.3 spi.13
Wednesday: T.L.W. complete Minerals and Energy Resources p. 65-71.What are the three fossil fuels? What are the four renewable energy sources? What issues surround the use of nuclear power? What are the two types of minerals? Define: minerals, metallic minerals, nonmetallic minerals, refineries, petroleum, fossil fuels, hydroelectric power, geothermal energy, solar energy. Section #4 Review p. 71 (1-5). 7.3.tpi.5
